The idea of porcelain as skin and vessel runs through all of my hand built pieces: a contained space articulated through an interplay of edge, line and surface.
I graduated with a BFA from the University of Manitoba in 1979. My work has been included in various exhibitions and collections throughout Edmonton, Banff, Calgary, Red Deer and Saskatoon. Since moving to the coast I have participated in the Salt Spring Potter’s Guild Shows from 2013 to present, the juried Sooke Fine Arts Show 2016 to present, for which in 2018 I was presented with an Award of Excellence; and the Parallel Art Show Salt Spring Island 2017. I was a finalist in SSICA 2016 and 2018 (Salt Spring Island Ceramic Awards).
My work can be found seasonally at Artcraft and Artcraft Winter in historic Mahon Hall on Salt Spring Island, The Pottery in Fulford Village and by appointment at our home studio/showroom on Quail Crescent, Saltspring Island.
ZakstudioSSI is proudly now on the Salt Spring Island Studio Tour.
